This blog is all about where to watch the fireworks at Epcot.
So, get ready to learn all about Epcot’s nightly spectacle. From the evolution of the fireworks show, the best places to experience them within the park, and even fireworks dining packages that offer exceptional views, we’ve got you covered.
Illuminating the World Showcase: Epcot Fireworks Show Overview
As the night sky comes alive with a symphony of lights, colors, and sounds, the World Showcase area is the perfect backdrop for this show. In this section, we will take a closer look at the nightly fireworks show at Epcot, and track its evolution from the iconic “Illuminations,” to its current iteration, “Luminous: The Story of Us.”
At Epcot, the nightly fireworks show over the World Showcase Lagoon lights up the sky in the center of the park. This spectacular show has been delighting guests since 1982, encompassing many different shows over the years.
The Evolution of Epcot Fireworks: From IllumiNations to Luminous
The Epcot fireworks show has undergone quite an evolution over the years, starting with a variety of rotating shows at the park inception and culminating in the long-running “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.” Debuting in 1999 (and replacing IllumiNations98), IllumiNations captured the hearts of classic Epcot with its blend of pyrotechnics, laser lights, music, and storytelling. For over 20 years, it endeared guests with its message of unity and the celebration of our shared humanity.
In 2019, IllumiNations bid farewell to pave the way for the next chapter in Epcot’s fireworks. “Epcot Forever” took its place, paying tribute to the park’s rich history while embracing new technologies. This 2019-2021 show featured fireworks set to a celebration of Epcot’s musical history.
Next came the polarizing show, Harmonius. Though it was novel for Epcot given its barges and water light spectacles with a variety of Disney stories and characters, it was not loved by all. The barges were a bit of an eyesore the other 12 hours they weren’t being used for the fireworks show.
And finally, the current show, Luminous: The Story of Us, debuted on December 5th, 2023, bringing together fireworks fountains, music, and lights set to both an original and classic Disney soundtrack. This brand new show was designed to celebrate 100 years of the Disney company.
So, let’s dive into how to experience this brand-new spectacular!
Where to Watch the Epcot Fireworks
When it comes to experiencing the magic of Epcot fireworks, choosing the right spot can make all the difference. Epcot offers various locations throughout the park that provide unique views with none being better than the prime World Showcase spots.
Whether you prefer a front-row view or a more secluded setting, here are the best places within Epcot to experience the show.
World Showcase Plaza
This is the space between the Disney Traders Shop and the Port of Entry Gift Shop. To get a good spot it’s best to arrive an hour or so before the show starts, however, sometimes you can still get a decent spot there 30 minutes before the show. Keep in mind they do sometimes block this spot off for special reserved events like dessert parties so always have a backup spot in mind.
Entrance to World Showcase
Another great spot is the walkway to the World Showcase area. You may have some trees that block your view but you won’t have to wait to get a space, and you are able to get out of there just after the show.
International Gateway Bridge
On the opposite side of the lake, you can also view the fireworks from the International Gateway Bridge, a great location if you want a quick exit and are staying at the Boardwalk Inn, Beach Club, Yacht Club, or Swan and Dolphin Resorts. This space can also get kind of crowded, and it’s farther back so not as exciting as a closer view.
Japan Pavilion
If you want to stay in Japan there are some great spots. My favorite spot is the second floor balcony of the Mitsukoshi department store. You will have an elevated view so you don’t have to worry about the trees as much. This spot will fill up so I advise you to get there 45 minutes ahead of time.
Japan has some other spots at the ground-level in the courtyard between the pagoda and Mitsokushi. This can be a great last-minute spot.
The area between the Japan Pavilion and the American Adventure Pavilion is also a great place to watch the Epcot Fireworks. However, if you head past this, closer to the Italy Pavilion, there will be trees blocking your view.
Italy Pavilion
A better, yet sometimes reserved, spot is in the Italy Pavilion. This gem of a spot is a small area that extends out a bit into the lagoon. Because it’s a small spot this area can also fill up quickly so plan ahead!
Unfortunately, many of the other parts of the Italy Pavilion offer obscured views due to trees but it’s worth a try if you can’t find another good viewing spot.
United Kingdom Pavilion
The area between the Canada and the United Kingdom pavilions is another great spot to catch some good views of the World Showcase Lagoon and the entire Epcot fireworks show. The U.K. Pavilion offers a charming backdrop with its classic British architecture while featuring a couple of other great viewing areas too!
Rose and Crown
The Rose and Crown Pub is a table service restaurant featuring classic British fare in a historic pub setting. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, with the outdoor seats being the most coveted spots for fireworks viewing. If you are trying to dine here in time for the fireworks make your reservations early, at the 60-day mark, or use one of the Disney Dining Reservation Finders Tools to try to get that hard-to-get reservation! Or you can book a Fireworks Dining Package– more info on this below.
Behind the Yorkshire County Fish Shop
There’s a great place for fireworks viewing right on the waterfront just behind the Yorkshire County Fish Shop.
Mexico
The Mexico Pavillion offers some great fireworks viewing at Epcot, either standing outside along the lagoon or choosing one of the following spots:
La Cantina de San Angel
A popular but great spot if you can get a seat is La Cantina de San Angel in Mexico. This is a quick-service restaurant with decent Mexican food and seating outside on the lagoon. It fills up quickly though so if you plan on sitting here, get some food and claim your spot early.
La Hacienda de San Angel
I love combining Epcot fireworks with Epcot dining. The Mexico Pavilion is home to one of my favorite places to do this, La Hacienda de San Angel. This is a lovely spot to catch the fireworks, particularly if you can get a seat by the window. It sits right on the lagoon, yet is indoors with large windows and they pipe the fireworks music into the restaurant.
Boat Dock
Additionally, there is a boat dock near La Hacienda de San Angel that has a fantastic view. You can stand near there or you may be lucky enough to be chosen to watch from the boat dock. Some guests are selected each night to go out there!
Exclusive Epcot Fireworks Dining Packages
Experience the magic of Epcot fireworks while diving into yummy cuisine with exclusive dining packages. These specially curated packages offer prime views of the fireworks, and culturally unique, delicious food!
Spice Road Table: Dine and Watch
One of the standout options for an exclusive Epcot fireworks dining experience is Spice Road Table. Located in the Morocco Pavilion, this waterfront restaurant provides awesome views of the World Showcase Lagoon. Spice Road Table offers a delicious Mediterranean-inspired meal.
The fireworks dining package option is a prix fixe meal offering
- 2 small plates
- shared tagine
- dessert platter
- selection of unlimited beverages
Theme park admission is required and the price is $81 for adults and $31 for children (under 10).
Rose and Crown Pub
We’ve already talked about Rose and Crown Pub and its unique location. But they also have a great fireworks dining package offering:
- one appetizer
- one entree
- one dessert
- selection of unlimited beverages
As always, theme park admission is required and the price is $91 for adults and $41 for children under 10.
Dining Reservations for Fireworks Views
Another way to secure the best fireworks views is by making dining reservations at select Epcot restaurants. By booking a table at the right time, you can enjoy a great meal and have a front-row seat to the fireworks extravaganza. Various dining locations throughout the park, as noted above, offer stunning views of the show.
In review, the prime viewing spot restaurants at World Showcase are:
- Spice Road Table (you can book this for either a regular dining reservation or a package)
- La Hacienda de San Angel
- Rose and Crown (you can book this for either a regular dining reservation or a package)
- La Cantina de San Angel (this is a quick service so no dining reservations here, it’s all first come first serve)
So, be sure to check out these exclusive Epcot fireworks dining packages and dining reservations or restaurants that offer the best fireworks views!
Other World Showcase Pavilions
Though the France Pavilion has elegance, it doesn’t have great fireworks viewing- other than the International Gateway Bridge noted above. But if you get close to the bridge you can sometimes find a good spot that isn’t obstructed. The Germany Pavilion sits back a bit, and though the Biergarten Restaurant is a hidden gem when it comes to fun cultural dining spots in Epcot, it doesn’t offer any outdoor seating so now fireworks views from here. Same with the China Pavilion options.
Future World Fireworks Spots
When it comes to finding the perfect spot to enjoy the Epcot fireworks, Future World (now called World Celebration, World Discovery, and World Nature) doesn’t offer really any unobscured views. But you can get a great view of Spaceship Earth, offering the full spectacle of the Beacons of Magic light show put to music and light projections on Spaceship Earth.
The Importance of Fireworks Time and Park Hours
Before heading to Epcot to watch the fireworks, it’s super important to check the fireworks time and park hours. The show typically starts after the park closes, usually around 9:00 to 9:15 PM. So you’ll need to plan accordingly and arrive early to secure a good spot, usually 30-60 minutes before the show starts.
There are some good last minute spots, as noted above, but don’t count on those as a sure thing.
Resort Views: Wher to Watch the Epcot Fireworks Beyond the Park Gates
While watching the Epcot fireworks from within the park is a magical experience, there’s another option to consider – enjoying the display from various resorts located near the park. These resort views offer a different perspective and the opportunity to relax and take in the spectacle. The following hotels are located very close to the International Gateway Entrance to Epcot and have better fireworks viewing than other Walt Disney World Resort hotels.
Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin: A Different Perspective
The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin resorts provide great views of the Epcot fireworks. Located conveniently close to the park, these resorts offer a unique perspective as the fireworks light up the night sky above the World Showcase.
Guests can enjoy the show from their rooms or step outside onto the balconies. While the resort hotels aren’t the best place to catch all the parts of the fireworks show, you can see the actual fireworks and not be stuck in big crowds.
Disney’s Boardwalk, Beach Club, and Yacht Club Fireworks Views
Another option for resort views of the Epcot fireworks is the trio of Disney’s Boardwalk, Beach Club, and Yacht Club resorts. Positioned along Crescent Lake, these resorts offer picturesque settings for enjoying the fireworks extravaganza. Guests can stroll along the boardwalk or find a cozy spot by the water to enjoy the show.
So, if you’re looking for a unique and relaxing way to experience the Epcot fireworks, consider the resort views offered by Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, Disney’s Boardwalk, Beach Club, and Yacht Club. These vantage points provide a different perspective, allowing you to catch the beauty of the fireworks while enjoying the comforts of these Disney resorts.
Another idea is Topolino’s Terrace at the Riviera Resort. This rooftop terrace offers beautiful views of the show, and yummy food and drinks, again without the stressful crowds.
Other fireworks shows at the Walt Disney World Resort
Both Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios have nighttime shows, but the Magic Kingdom is the only other park with a fireworks show. Though most people line up on Main Street U.S.A. to watch the show as there are projections on the buildings, many also line up in the hub of the Magic Kingdom. The current show is a revisit of the fabulous “Happily Ever After” and also features projections on Cinderella’s Castle.
If you want to see the nighttime show at Hollywood Studios just head over to the Chinese Theater to catch “Wonderful World of Animation”. This is a charming projection show celebrating more the 100 years of Disney Animation!
