From choosing the right attire for long park hours to layering options for March’s variable temperatures, we’ll help you stay comfy and prepared on your Disneyland vacation. We’ll also provide some fun tips on matching outfits and Disney bound ideas, as well as advice on the best times to visit Disneyland in March.
Understanding Disneyland’s March Climate
To know what to pack and/or wear for your Disneyland trip in March, it’s important to understand the California climate. Southern California weather is characterized by mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers. In March, you can expect very pleasant temperatures, with average highs ranging from the mid-60s to low 70s Fahrenheit (18-23 degrees Celsius) and average lows ranging from the mid-40s to low 50s Fahrenheit (7-12 degrees Celsius).
However, it’s important to note that temperatures can vary between daytime and nighttime greatly this time of year, so it’s essential to pack layers!
Disneyland Park March Essentials
When visiting Disneyland Park in March, there are a few essential items you’ll need to make sure you add to your Disneyland Packing List:
Layers
Always pack layers this time of year! As you saw above Southern California has fluctuating daytime temperatures, and cooler temperatures at night during the winter months (sometimes). So you want to be prepared!
Luckily there are some fun Disney themed light layers you can pack. Here are some great options for cooler weather:
- Spirit Jerseys– Spirit Jerseys have been around a long time but the Disney-branded oversized Jersey shirts have gained huge popularity over the last few years. They are typically made of cotton fabric, and are long sleeved so good for late winter in Disneyland. You can buy these ahead of time on ShopDisney to save money (they have regular sales and there are discounts for Disney Visa Card Holders)
- Hoodies– There’s nothing like a good Hoodie for layering up for a colder evenings. And there are so many ways to show your Disney love via Hoodie! Amazon Essentials Disney | Marvel | Star Wars | Princess Women's Fleece Sherpa-Lined Full-Zip Hoodies, Dancing Minnie, Large$36.40
I like this hoodie for the winter months as it is fleece lined and super soft! They also have Marvel Avengers, Star Wars, and Minnie options!

The chance of rain is quite low in March at Disneyland but there’s still a 15-18% chance in early to mid-March.
- Long sleeves– you don’t have to be into the whole Spirit Jersey thing (they are pricey). I also recommend packing a good light long-sleeved shirt or two. Warm Weather Essentials
Be sure to add some warm weather layers to your Disneyland in March packing list! It can get very sunny and feel more like the warmer months at times in Anaheim in March.
Here’s what I recommend packing:
- Tank Tops– that is if you are a tank top kind of person. If you are then pack some neutral colors for layering like white, black, or khaki. Or keep Disney bounding in mind and pack your favorite character colors (see below for more info).LUKYCILD Magic Castle Tank Top Girls Trip Shirts for Women 2023 Holiday Vacation Sleeveless Tops White$19.99
This Magical tank top comes in quite a few colors or there are also some neutral options if you prefer a plain tank.

The best kind of fabric is something like dri fit or 100% cotton.
- Bathing Suit- even though it can be cold at night you may still want to enjoy your hotel pool. And the hot tub will feel really good after a long day at Disneyland!
Pack the Perfect Disney Park Bag
Don’t forget to bring a good park bag for your days and nights at Disneyland! I like to pack either a cross-body bag, a small backpack, or a larger backpack. My park bag choice usually depends on the plan for the day and if I need to bring snacks/food for the family.
Disney Park Bag Essentials
- Chargers– you will NEED chargers for your phone. The Disneyland app is essential during your Disneyland vacation, and it will drain your battery. I like to bring a long-lasting, durable charger and a fuelrod as a backup. Fuel rods can be exchanged (at no cost) at several kiosks throughout Disneyland Park, California Adventure, and the Disneyland Resort Hotels. You can buy fuel rods ahead of time online at a bit of a discount. FuelRod Portable Charger Kit- Exchange for Free at the Disney Parks$29.99We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.11/21/2024 02:13 am GMT
- Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen– there will be sunny days and you will need sun protection in the early spring/late winter! My favorite sunscreen types are the more natural brands like SunBum or Coola. It’s best to pack a small tube or stick/balm, as they are smaller and more portable. Sunscreen spray, particularly aerosol spray, is the worst kind to bring because it’s really difficult to find an empty corner of Disneyland where you won’t be spraying it all over someone else.
- Snacks– don’t get me wrong Disneyland has some amazing snacks but I never want to get stuck in a long line without some emergency snacks in my bag! I usually throw in something easy and portable like trail mix, a protein bar or granola bar, or apple slices/carrots.
- Hand sanitizer/wipes– Disneyland is crowded in March, and there are germs everywhere! Enough said right?
- A mini first-aid kit- I’m a doctor so I might go a bit overboard but I think the minimum for a Disney survival first aid kit should be:
- Band-aids
- Blister pads
- Some type of anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, or Arnica
- Anti-nausea wrist bands (sometimes the spinny rides can get to even those with iron stomachs), and Dramamine Sea-Band The Original Wristband Adults - 1 Piece$9.30
These bands, and others like them, can help fight nausea and even motion sickness. We use them for car trips and they really work!

The Best Shoes for Disney
As with any Disney trip- whether it be Disneyland or Walt Disney World- you will want to pack comfortable and already worn-in shoes. In March, you will need to be prepared for warm and cold weather, and a the small but possible chance of rain.
Here are some of my favorite shoes to pack for Disneyland in March:
Sneakers- sneakers, tennis shoes, or slide-ons like Vans are a great options for a day at the park. Make sure to break them in before your trip. Also, pack some moisture-wicking socks for sweat and/or rain.
Cross-over shoes- Shoes like Crocs (not for everyone, I know), Native shoes, or Tevas can be a great cross-over between a sandal and a sneaker while providing a comfortable footbed, and even Disney theming
Sandals or Flip Flops- While sandals may not be the most obvious choice for a day at Disneyland, they can be a comfortable option if you prefer more breathable footwear. Look for pairs with sturdy soles and straps that will keep your feet secure.
Or (if it’s going to be warm enough) you can throw one pair of flip-flops or a packable shoe like TOMS in your bag for a late-day change of shoes, particularly if your feet are getting tired or if any blisters start to form (see my complete blog on preventing blisters on a Disney trip for more helpful tips).
What to Wear to Disneyland in March
When planning your visit to Disneyland vacation in March, it’s a good idea to be prepared for long park hours. Spring break crowds can make for long days and long lines this time of the year.
Here are some tips to help you put together the perfect outfit for your Disneyland trip in March:
- Choose Comfortable Clothes: Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics in case the warm days have you working up a sweat. Have some pants, jeans, skirts, or dresses paired with short-sleeved shirts or t-shirts for warmer weather. For cooler temperatures, layer with Spirit Jerseys, Hoodies, or light jackets.
- Pack Versatile Shoes: Wear comfortable shoes for long park hours. And I can’t say this enough- Avoid wearing new or uncomfortable shoes to prevent blisters and sore feet.
- Embrace the Disney Magic: Show your love for Disney by wearing outfits inspired by your favorite Disney characters. Consider Disney-themed shirts, accessories, or even Disney bounding – dressing in everyday clothing that represents a character without wearing a costume. See more below on Disney bounding!
Remember to check the weather forecast before you visit Disneyland. Daytime temperatures can range from the mid-60s to low 70s Fahrenheit (18-23 degrees Celsius), while evenings can be colder with temperatures ranging from the mid-40s to low 50s Fahrenheit (7-12 degrees Celsius).
Whether you’re watching Disneyland fireworks at night, catching Fantasmic on the Rivers of America, or exploring Disney California Adventure Park, having the right clothing will ensure you can fully enjoy the magic!
While this guide focuses on Disneyland Resort, it’s worth noting that other Disney destinations like Walt Disney World or Disneyland Paris may also have cooler evenings. So, be sure to pack appropriately if you’re planning a trip to these magical Disney theme parks as well.
Matching Outfits and Disney Bound Ideas
Many Disney fans like to represent their favorite character or have matching styles or themes when they visit the Happiest Place on Earth.
Dressing up in matching outfits or Disney bounding is a fun way to show your love for Disney during your vacation.
If you’re looking for matching outfits, consider coordinating colors or styles that reflect a specific Disney movie or theme. For example, you and your group can dress up as the classic Mickey and Minnie Mouse duo, or you can go all out with a group costume inspired by the Disney princesses, Pixar films or even a family theme like Encanto.
Disney bounding is another popular option that allows you to subtly reference your favorite Disney characters through your clothing choices. It involves wearing everyday clothes that resemble the colors, patterns, or styles associated with a specific character. For instance, you can channel your inner Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” by wearing a yellow skirt and a blue shirt, or Snow White by wearing red, blue, and yellow.
You can get inspiration for Disney bounding on Pinterest, or even buy outfits that are already put together on Etsy.
When planning your outfits, consider the weather and comfort. Make sure the fabrics and footwear you choose can handle long walks in the Disney theme parks.
Remember, the goal is to have fun and express your love for Disney, so don’t be afraid to get creative and put your own spin on matching outfits or Disney bounding!
Is March a Good Time to Go to Disneyland?
March can be a great time to visit the Disney Parks, but it’s important to consider a few factors. Let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons of visiting Disneyland in March, including crowd levels, weather conditions, and special events, to help you determine if it’s the best time for your Disneyland vacation.
Crowd Levels:
March is generally considered a less crowded time to visit Disneyland compared to peak seasons like summer and holiday periods. However, it’s worth noting that spring break can attract more visitors, particularly during the latter part of the month. To manage crowds more effectively, refer to Disneyland crowd calendars for insight into anticipated crowd levels on specific dates.
Weather Conditions:
March is a wonderful time to visit Disneyland when it comes to weather. As we have reviewed, March in Southern California brings warmer weather, with average daytime temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to low 70s Fahrenheit (18-23 degrees Celsius). There are cooler evenings with average nighttime temperatures in the mid-40s to low 50s Fahrenheit (7-12 degrees Celsius).
Special Events:
Disneyland Resort often hosts seasonal events and celebrations during different times of the year, and March is no exception. From St. Patrick’s Day festivities to the awesome Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, there are unique experiences to enjoy during this time. Occasionally Dapper Days sometimes falls in March too. In the upcoming year, it does not though as it’s scheduled for April 6th, 2024.
Check the Disneyland Resort’s official website for updates on special events happening during your visit.
Considering these factors, March can be an ideal time to visit Disneyland if you prefer pleasant weather and fun events. However, be aware of the potential increase in crowds during spring break. Plan your visit accordingly, and don’t forget to consult Disneyland’s official website and crowd calendars for the most up-to-date information on park hours, attractions, and events, as well as crowd levels.
In conclusion, when it comes to what to wear to Disneyland in March, it’s important to take into account the climate, crowds, and park activities.
Before heading to the parks, it’s important to check the weather forecast to be sure that you’re prepared for any unexpected changes. This will help you plan your outfits accordingly and pack any necessary items, such as a light jacket or warmer clothing for cooler evenings. By staying informed about the weather conditions, you can make the most of your Disneyland visit and stay comfortable throughout the day.
To make the most of your Disneyland vacation, be sure to make a list of your must-do experiences and attractions. Whether it’s meeting your favorite Disney characters, exploring the incredible lands, or enjoying the iconic rides, be sure to plan your itinerary carefully to enjoy all the magic that Disneyland Resort has to offer. Don’t forget to take breaks and stay hydrated too. And be prepared for crowds by checking those crowd calendars and rope-dropping if it’s going to be super busy.
Most of all enjoy your time at the Happiest Place on Earth!
