Ultimate Guide to Vegan Food at the Magic Kingdom
Are you going to the Magic Kingdom and want to know where to find vegan food? Check out this guide- I’ve been going to Magic Kingdom since I was a kid, and I have been a plant-based eater for the last 25 years. Magic Kingdom, the top visited park at Walt Disney World Resort, has many vegan options and is one of the easiest theme parks for a vegan.
You can find plant-based options at fast-food spots (quick-service restaurants), sit-down (table service) restaurants, and snack stands (food carts). Walt Disney World ensures there are plenty of dairy-free, gluten-free, and plant-based meals available, and you can look them all up on the My Disney Experience App. It makes finding food stress-free and fun.
You’ll see everything from famous Dole Whip Floats to yummy Impossible Burgers to stews and flavorful tofu dishes at Magic Kingdom. Get ready for an amazing vegan adventure at this park!
Introduction to Vegan Food at the Magic Kingdom
Disney parks have been committed to offering more plant-based meals over the last few years, so they’ve added many more vegan items. Now, visitors can easily find meals that fit both healthy and animal-friendly diets. Disney parks also are amazing places for allergy-friendly diets like gluten- and nut-free—you name it, they can accommodate you!
The Rise of Plant-Based Options at Disney Parks
Disney’s parks are adding more and more plant-based items because guests are asking for them. In October 2019, the company debuted hundreds of vegan items on its menus, with convenient “green leaf” markings to indicate which are plant-based.
They rolled these items out at their parks and resort hotels, making it super easy to eat out inside or outside the park as a vegan.
Using the My Disney Experience App for Vegan Finds
The My Disney Experience App, Walt Disney World’s App, is also helpful for finding vegan food in the park.
Here’s how to find menus on the My Disney Experience App:
- Go to the My Disney Experience App
- Hit the “+” at the bottom of the of the screen
- Choose Check Dining Availability
- Put in the date you are looking for and the number in your party; or just choose a random date
- Go to the filter section in the top left and choose “Magic Kingdom Area” then scroll down and choose “Theme Park Dining”
- Choose the restaurant whose menu you want to view, then tap on the name of the restaurant.
- Swipe right to choose “view menu” then tap on this.
- Scroll around to read the descriptions. There is no “green leaf” marking on the app, but anything that is plant-based will say so at the end of the item’s description.
Another option is to check out the Vegan Disney World site– they have all of the vegan options located throughout Walt Disney World, Disney Springs, and the Disney water parks.
Kiosks and Food Carts with Vegan Food in the Magic Kingdom
Aloha Isle, Adventureland
Aloha Isle is a top pick for vegans as it is home to the dairy-free frozen treat that is iconic for Disney Parks: Dole Whip. They offer classic pineapple Dole Whip, Dole Whip floats, and even tasty pineapple spears! The vanilla and coconut flavors have dairy so be sure to ask for any float or swirl without vanilla or coconut. Instead they can swirl together pineapple and raspberry (if they have it, they don’t always have another fruit flavor there).
Sunshine Tree Terrace, Adventureland
And at Sunshine Tree Terrace, the Citrus Swirl is awesome, again, though the vanilla or chocolate soft serve option is not vegan here so stick with the orange or strawberry soft-serve for your treat or floats. They do have a variety of floats here, and you can get any of them with any flavor of Dole Whip (just not the soft serve). They also have Joffrey’s cold brew coffee!
Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, Main Street USA
Guess what? They have vegan vanilla ice cream at the Magic Kingdom. It’s found right in the middle of Main Street U.S.A. (the actual main street that leads from the entrance to the hub of the Magic Kingdom).
Mickey Pretzels at Food Carts throughout the Magic Kingdom
If you see a cart with a Mickey Pretzel you can be assured that pretzel is vegan- just don’t get the cheese sauce. Most of these carts also serve frozen treats and usually they will have a fruit bar of some sort and they will all have cold sodas and waters available.
Liberty Square Market
This is one of my favorite grab-and-go locations at the Magic Kingdom. They have refreshing fresh fruit, Mickey Pretzels, assorted chips, and a variety of cold beverages.
Quick Service Locations with Vegan Options
Magic Kingdom is full of quick service spots (Disney theme park term for walk-up fast food restaurants), many of which offer options for those eating plant-based diets. These spots offer some tasty vegan meals, and here are my recommendations for finding a good quick service location for vegan food at Magic Kingdom. You can also skip the line by using mobile order (some of the kiosks above have this too) right on the app! Just go to app, hit the “+” section and choose “order food”. You can modify items on the mobile order screen too, and the plant-based items are clearly labeled.
At any of these quick service or kiosk locations you can ask a cast member to see “the book” which has the ingredients of everything they are preparing.
Casey’s Corner , Main Street U.S.A.
Casey’s Corner is known for it’s foot long hot dogs but they do have a Chicago Dog Plant Based Dog or regular Plant Based Dog and the gluten free bun is vegan. These are plant-based sausage (from the Beyond Sausage brand), and the Chicago style is topped with diced tomatoes, onions, yellow mustard, and Chicago green relish.
They come with french fries, there’s a chance there could be some cross contamination with the corn dogs that are cooked in the fryer next to the fries, so keep that in mind if that’s an issue for you.
Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café, Tomorrowland
Over at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café, they have options for vegan dining as well. This is your standard theme park fare, and burgers are the main thing here- but they have a veggie burger option!
The impossible patty melt is an Impossible Burger topped with Plant-based Swiss Cheese, Pickle Slaw, and Asteroid Sauce on Toast. I highly recommend this burger!
Pinocchio Village Haus, Fantasyland
Though not the best pizza you will ever have, Pinnochio Village Haus holds a special place in my heart partly because of it’s wonderful location with a patio looking out at Fantasyland and an upstairs looking over the “it’s a small world” boat ride launch.
But I also love it because all of their flatbread pizza crusts are gluten-free, and they have a vegan chees option as well. They also offer Twinings hot tea, and they have a few different Joffrey’s coffee drinks if you need a pick me up.
I visited this location often as a kid and it is classic Magic Kingdom nostalgia!
Friar’s Nook, Fantasyland
Friar’s Nook offers a plant-based brat with tater tots as its vegan option. It’s decent and filling, and the price is not bad for the amount of food you get. For your caffeine fix (if you need one), they have hot tea, Joffrey’s cold brew, and traditionally brewed coffee.
Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn, Frontierland
Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn has a tasty veggie rice bowl for anyone looking for a big meal. They also have the Mixed Greens Salad with Strawberries, Tomato, and Red Onion as one of their plant-based dishes, thought the veggie rice bowl is more filling as it offers the pinto beans as your protein source.
Additionally they have vegan sides like Cilantro rice, pinto bean, guacamole, tortilla chips, Cutie oranges, and pb&j uncrustables.
We aren’t sure if Pecos Bill will be sticking around after Tiana’s ride opens in June of 2024- stay tuned for more updates!
Columbia Harbour House, Liberty Square
I adore the Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square. It has ample seating, including some that overlook the passageway from Fantasyland into Liberty Square. Columbia Harbour House has a wonderful vegan “crab cake” sandwich (fake crab meat, of course) served with french fries and red cabbage slaw.
They also offer vegan sides like green beans, pb&j uncrustables, and rice, and have Twinings tea, and Joffreys coffee.
Table Service Dining for Vegans
When you visit Magic Kingdom, finding a great table service meal is easy. Plenty of restaurants have great options for vegan meals. Here, we’ll look at some top dining spots for vegan food in the Magic Kingdom. But remember to make your advanced dining reservations.
You can make these on the My Disney Experience app up to 60 days ahead of time and I recommend making them as close to the 60 day mark as you can as these spots can fill up fast. But don’t worry if you miss your chance, I have a blog all about using Disney Dining reservation finders to score last minute hard to get Disney World dining reservations.
Liberty Tree Tavern, Liberty Square
The Liberty Tree Tavern is a must-visit. It has a set menu with vegan options for lunch and dinner.
You’ve got to try their Revolutionary Meatloaf! It’s made with Impossible meat, and it’s a tasty, full meal as they have the vegan Declaration salad as a starter and two lovely plant-based dessert options- the Johnny Appleseed’s Warm Apple Cake or the Sorbet.
Check out their specialty cocktails (which you can only get at table service restaurants at the Magic Kingdom) and their frozen dole whip drink- the Tavern Punch.
Crystal Palace, Main Street, U.S.A. (character dining)
Heading over to the Crystal Palace, you’ll find a buffet style where you can meet and greet with the characters from the Seven Acre Wood (Eeyore, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and Piglet). You usually need to plan way in advance to get into this restaurant, so check out my notes above and my blog on getting the dining reservation you want.
Options vary by meal time
For breakfast, you can enjoy Mickey waffles or a vegan egg frittata. There are also lots of fresh fruit options, oatmeal, and even vegan spiced cake.
The plant-based lunch and dinner options can vary but will always be marked with the green leaf symbol, but they really don’t have many vegan options at these meals. The staples that are *usually* vegan depending on how they prepare them are the seasonal pasta, salads, and vegetables. But the great thing about eating at a Disney park is that they are very accommodating, so let your server know you are vegan and they can point you in the right direction.
Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen, Adventureland
The Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen has a great menu for vegans. This fun Jungle Cruise skipper-themed restaurant is a must for any trip I take to the Magic Kingdom. It’s easy to get into and is such a hidden gem!
To start, try the Fall’s Family Falafel or the Lost and Found Soup. I recommend the Curried Vegetable Crew Stew with Pineapple Tofu for your main dish. For dessert, get Panna-Congie’s congo lime delight!
If you like cocktails, check out their list- they have some unique creations!
Cinderella’s Royal Table, Fantasyland (in the castle, character dining)
Cinderella’s Royal Table is a truly magical place that I always dreamed about visiting as a kid (when I visited it wasn’t a restaurant and I was significantly disappointed that you couldn’t actually tour Cinderella’s castle).
For breakfast they offer what they call the Traditional Plant-based Breakfast which includes plant-based scrambled eggs with peppers, onions, and spinach. They also serve this with Impossible Breakfast Sausage, charred Tomatoes, and multigrain toast.
The lunch and dinner entree option is singular for vegans- it is the pan-roasted cauliflower served with Quinoa Salad with Tomato Jam and Chimichurri. The vegan dessert is the Floating Island (Raspberry Meringue with Tropical Fruit Coulis and Plant-based Ganache.
ProTip:
So, let’s talk about character dining- you are paying for the character interactions, and even more so if you are vegan. Your plant-based options will be limited and usually not that good, so I recommend opting for breakfast as it’s both cheaper and has more vegan options. If you make an early dining reservation, this also gets you in the park early and makes for some great pictures on Main Street and in front of Cinderella’s Castle!
Be our Guest Restaurant, Fantasyland
Be our Guest restaurant gives you another chance to visit an iconic castle- the Beast’s Castle. This is kind of character dining as the Beast will walk around, but he won’t stop and meet and greet with guests or take pictures, and Belle is nowhere to be found here (though I highly recommend going to her interactive show, which is close by Enchanted Tales with Belle).
This location offers lunch and dinner, and just like Cinderella’s Royal Table, it is quite pricey. This is a signature dining location so it offers a prix fix meal and the vegan options are Mixed Field Greens as your appetizer, Vadouvan Spiced Vegetables as your entree, and vegan Vanilla Cake with Lemon Curd as your dessert. You also get a beverage and can opt to pay for a cocktail, wine, or beer (they have a great wine and champagne list).
With this restaurant, you are again paying for its ambiance and likely not getting nearly as full as your non-vegan friends!
The Plaza Restaurant, Main Street U.S.A.
Another classic Disney World restaurant that has been around as long as I can remember, the Plaza still serves up yummy food and has some vegan options. They have the Chili Impossible Burger for your entree option, which is an Impossible Burger topped with Impossible Chili, Pico de Gallo, and Plant-based Cheddar on a Potato Roll.
For dessert, they have a couple of vegan options- the Dark Chocolate-Banana Bread Pudding with Soy Milk-based ice cream or the Vanilla or Chocolate Milkshake vegan option that is available by request.
The Plaza also has sides of apples, fresh fruits, and veggies.
Tony’s Town Square, Main Street U.S.A.
I have to be honest this isn’t my favorite Magic Kingdom restaurant as the food is pretty mediocre but they do have a vegan entree- the Spaghetti and Mushroom Meatballs, and they have a vegan garden side salad. For dessert they offer a plant-based Affogato, which is a Plant-based Vanilla Gelato, Coconut Milk Caramel, and Chocolate Cookie served with Freshly Brewed Espresso.
Non-Dairy Milk Options at Coffee Stands
For those who love coffee, there are many coffee stands at Magic Kingdom that offer non-dairy milk such as almond and oat milk. You can still get your favorite coffee drinks enjoy a classic espresso or a latte! If you are set on getting your Starbucks fix while at Walt Disney World see my blog on Starbucks at Hollywood Studios as I also talk about where the Starbucks locations are at the other parks. To save you time- the Starbucks location at Magic Kingdom is on Main Street USA and is called the Main Street Bakery.
