Planning on doing your first runDisney race and looking for awesome run Disney outfit ideas? Look no further- we’ve got you covered!
Preparing for your first runDisney race is exciting, and choosing the right costume or outfit can make your experience even more magical! Whether you’re doing a 5K or gearing up for a full marathon, your run Disney outfit should balance comfort and whatever Disney vibe you choose. I’ve compiled 11 amazing costume ideas and run Disney outfit ideas that will help you get started!
Remember to test any outfit during your practice runs before race day. Nothing ruins magical memories like chafing or uncomfortable gear!
1. Classic Mickey Costume or Outfit
The only thing better than running through Magic Kingdom is doing it dressed as the mouse who started it all! A classic Mickey-themed outfit is perfect for your first RunDisney race.
To create this iconic look pair together: – Red running shorts or a running skirt – Black moisture-wicking top – Mickey ears headband (secured well!) – Yellow running shoes to represent Mickey’s shoes – Optional: white gloves that won’t interfere with your running form
Or you could choose the first lady of any Disney Park, Ms. Minnie Mouse! Switch out the above shorts or running skirt with a red or pink polka dot option, Minnie Ears with her classic bow, and a red or pink sports tank. Or choose a polka dot runners skater dress!
These costumes work great in any weather (you’ll have to maybe add leggings or running tights if it’s really cold though) and are easily recognizable- perfect to make your way down Main Street!
2. Favorite Disney Princess Outfit Ideas
Channel your favorite princess for your runDisney adventure! Belle-inspired outfits were particularly popular at last year’s events.
For a Belle running ensemble: – Yellow sparkle skirt or running shorts – Blue tank top or sports bra with a yellow overlay – Red rose accessory (hair clip or armband) – Gold accessories that won’t bounce during your run
Other popular princess options include Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, and Ariel from The Little Mermaid. There are a few companies online that have “bundles” of running skirts, princess-themed sports tops, and even accessories- easy peasy, you can just get them all in one place. Etsy is another great place to get Disney Princess (or characters in general) running gear.
For Snow White, you can wear yellow bottoms (leggings, a running skirt or shorts), a blue top, and a red bow or headband; for Rapunzel, it’s lavender and pink, for Ariel sparkly (sparkle skirts are amazing) blues and purples, and for Cinderella, it’s all blue. You can even reuse some of your staples for next year and change Princesses (yellow for both Belle and Snow White and pale blue for Cinderella and Elsa).
Many runners on TikTok make these outfits both functional and beautiful! I also have an entire blog on Princess Running Costume ideas.
3. Buzz Lightyear Running Gear
To infinity and beyond! A Buzz Lightyear costume can help you “fly through your race”!
Create your space ranger look with: – Green and purple performance shirt (or sports bra and overlay) – White running shorts or leggings – Lightweight jetpack made from foam – Green and purple accessories – Optional: space ranger helmet visor (just for pre-race photos)
This is a great option for races during warmer months at Walt Disney World!
4. Disney Villains Themed Costume
Embrace your dark side with a villains-inspired outfit! Cruella de Vil and Maleficent are awesome choices as they are super recognizable, fun to put together, and not too difficult to pull off.
For a Cruella-inspired look: – Black and white split-design running top – Black running shorts or skirt – Spotted accessories or temporary hair color spray – Red gloves (if the weather permits)
And for Maleficent it’s black all the way! A black shiny running skirt and tank, and a Maleficent horned headband is really all you need, but of course you can jazz up this idea.
Villains costumes were a huge hit during marathon weekend events and make for fantastic race photos!
5. Toy Story Group Costumes
Running with friends? Toy Story group costumes are perfect for your group theme!
Some group costume ideas include: – Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and Bo Peep – The Toy Story aliens – Army men (green performance wear) – Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head
Group costumes are super fun and encourage community and camaraderie, and you can’t go wrong getting great group photos when you have a theme!
6. Disney Character Tutu Ensemble
Tutus are practically synonymous with runDisney costumes! A princess or character themed tutu ensemble combines comfort with whimsy and fun.
Create your tutu look: – Character-colored tutu, or a rainbow colored option if you want to be the bird Kevin from UP – Matching performance top or sports bra (or a peacock blue one for Kevin) – Tiara or feather headband (secured with bobby pins) – Character accessories (like Ariel’s shell or Snow White’s bow)

7. Star Wars Character Costumes
Bring the force with you during your runDisney event! Star Wars is always a fun theme and can make for fabulous individual or group costumes.
Popular Star Wars running costumes include: – Princess Leia (white performance wear with side buns) – Rey (beige/tan running gear with a gear type belt) – Darth Vader (black performance wear with cape- you can wear short capes just not long capes) – Han Solo (white shirt, black vest, blue pants)
These costumes are especially perfect if you’re participating in a Star Wars-themed race (though they haven’t had these lately for some reason) or if you’re visiting Galaxy’s Edge after your run!
8. Winnie the Pooh Inspired Outfit
A Pooh-inspired costume brings childhood nostalgia and a smile to many runners faces!
For this hunny of a costume or runDisney bound: – Yellow running shirt or sports bra – Red running shorts or skirt – Bear ears headband – Optional: small honey pot accessory on a belt
And just think of the group outfits- all the friends in the Seven Acre wood like Tigger (orange and black striped attire with Tigger ears), Rabbit (pale yellow and white gear with rabbit ears), Eeyore (blue and gray running outfit with a pink bow), or Piglet (a dual pink running skater type dress would be super easy or just do a bound with a pale pink running shirt and dark pink bottoms)
The Winnie the Pooh and friends theme is always fun and a super popular option that also makes for some amazing theme parks shots!
9. Frozen Themed Running Attire
Let it go… all the way to the finish line with a Frozen-inspired outfit!
For an Elsa-inspired look: – Blue performance top or sports bra – Sparkly blue running skirt or shorts – Snowflake accessories – Long sleeves or arm warmers for colder races – Optional: cape (if it doesn’t interfere with running)- or check out the already put together outfits I mentioned on this site.
Anna and Olaf make great options too, especially for group costumes at your next runDisney race!
10. Marvel Superhero Costumes
Channel your inner superhero strength with a Marvel-inspired costume!
Popular Marvel running costumes include: – Captain America (blue performance top with star, red/white skirt or shorts) – Black Widow (black running attire with red accents) – Super Minnie (Minnie-themed superhero mashup) – Spider-Man (red and blue running gear with web patterns); the Scarlet Witch could also be a good baddie option and the crimson red shiny fabrics could be fun to put together.
Really there are so many choices here- Loki and Thor could be a great runDisney bound or theme, as could the Guardians of the Galaxy crew for a group theme (but Guardians may be challenging to put together, though super fun).
11. Seasonal Disney Character Outfits

Seasonal costumes often align with park decorations, events, and festivals, creating perfect photo opportunities along your route!
The Wrap Up
Choosing the perfect runDisney race outfit for your first race adds an extra layer of fun to an already magical experience. Whether you’re channeling your favorite Walt Disney World attraction or character, remember that comfort should always come first.
Test your costume during training, secure any accessories that might bounce, and consider the weather for race day. The best discounts on running gear often happen in the off-season, so plan ahead for next year!
